Buldak ramen with sweet sautéed onion, mayonnaise, and an egg yolk, inspired by the Korean variety show Earth Arcade.

  • Total Time: 8
  • Yield: 1 servings

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 package Buldak ramen, including liquid sauce and flakes
  • ½ onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (or cooking oil)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Mayonnaise, to taste

Optional

  • 1 slice cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Slice Onion: Thinly slice ½ onion.
  2. Cook Onion: Cook the onion in the oil over low heat until translucent and lightly golden. Set aside.
  3. Cook Noodles: Boil the noodles for about 3 minutes. Reserve about 1 ladleful of cooking water and discard the rest.
  4. Add Sauce & Onion: Add the liquid sauce and cooked onion. Toss over medium-low heat for about 1 minute, keeping the noodles slightly saucy.
  5. Finish & Serve: Plate the noodles and add cheddar, if using, to melt in the residual heat. Drizzle with mayonnaise, sprinkle with the included flakes, and top with the egg yolk.

Notes

  • More onion: Use 1 whole onion if you like its sweetness.
  • Onion heat: Cook slowly over low heat to avoid burning.
  • Sauce consistency: Use medium heat if there’s plenty of liquid, or low heat if there’s only a little left.
  • Egg yolk: Break the yolk and mix it into the noodles as you eat to mellow the heat.
